Are you team Jacob or team Edward? At first, Edward Cullen can seem stalkerish, over-protective, and a bit manipulative, so that may make you team Jacob. And at first, Jacob Black can seem like just an immature young teenager who has an adorable little crush on Bella Swan, so that may make you team Edward. This fun and riddling debate is just one of the things that makes the “Twilight Saga” astonishing.
At the beginning of May, Netflix added an addition of all of the “Twilight Saga” movies to its U.S. platform. While some have rejoiced with bliss because of this, others have joked about the poor overall quality of these movies.
The first movie in the saga, “Twilight,” originally came out in 2008, and, according to The Independent, it grossed about $470 million globally.
The second movie, “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” came out in June 2009. With “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” following in 2010, and, lastly, “Breaking Dawn: Part 1” and “Breaking Dawn: Part 2” were released in 2011 and 2012. The entire five-film franchise gathered a total of three billion dollars worldwide.
All of the “Twilight Saga” movies relate and connect to each other in many ways, but the first movie stands out.
While watching “Twilight,” it’s hard not to notice the blue filter. Compared to the other movies in the saga, the first movie has a clear blue filter throughout the whole film. Some tend to make fun of it, whereas others understand the beauty of it. The blue filter allows viewers to feel the cold, rainy, and gloomy atmosphere of Forks, where the movie takes place. And as a vampire, the blue filter enhances Edward’s cold, pale, and shiny skin.
The Cullens, Edward’s family, also live in the mountains. So, when viewers see the Cullens showcase their vampire skills in the mountains and forest, the blue filter enhances both the landscape and the Cullens’ appearance as vampires. The blue filter allows you to almost feel like you’re living in the movie.
Another topic that makes “Twilight” so unique is the acting. Bella Swan, the main character, is played by Kristen Stewart. Stewart does an amazing job of portraying the awkwardness of the character Bella. Bella is not shy, but she is socially awkward and not a people person, and there’s a reason behind this, too.
Throughout her whole life, Bella feels out of place and “different” from other humans. And when she meets the Cullens and learns about vampires, she finally learns what her peace is. She knows her ending is meant to be with Edward, while she is also a vampire.
Many fans make fun of Stewart’s acting because Bella seems so awkward, but that’s the whole purpose of it. The fact that fans make fun of human Bella and her personality just means Stewart did an amazing job.
“Twilight” is very unique compared to the other movies in the saga, but it is still worth watching. To fully enjoy and understand, you must watch the first movie and be open-minded.
“Twilight” is not cringey; it is a masterpiece. So, before Netflix takes it away, go watch it.
