Metea launched its fall sports season with Mustang Mania on Friday, August 22, an annual showcase where teams exhibited their offseason progress to a crowd of enthusiastic students from 4 to 8 p.m. The event also offered athletes the opportunity to reconnect with friends over fun games and food.
“So far, my favorite part is the people.” Freshman Shreyan Bhandari said, “They’re all pretty chill and nice.”
All the athletic teams come together for Mustang Mania, supporting one another and often staying after their events to enjoy and celebrate their progress and dedication.
The boys’ varsity soccer team received a lot of support and cheers as they split into two teams and participated in a short scrimmage. Senior Ian Van Horn scored the first and only goal. Throughout the game, the varsity soccer team demonstrated the ability to work as a team.
The girls’ swim and dive team showcased their speed and skill at Mustang Mania as well. Like the boys’ soccer team, the girls were divided into two groups and competed against each other to create a meet-like experience.
Cross country participated in themed relays, dividing into teams and dressing up in onesies, cowboy hats, flannel, and more. One team even dressed as Minions.
“I ran a race for cross country, and after I’ve just been with my friends,” Bhandari said,
In addition to the sports, Mustang Mania also offered raffles, an apparel booth to buy school spirit wear, and a sign-up table to join the Metea Valley Boosters. The Boosters are a parent organization that hosts fundraisers to support Metea’s athletic teams with the necessary gear.
“Mustang Mania brings everyone together.” Sophomore Giana Leofanti said, “Everyone gets to go have fun and support the athletic teams.”
