As October comes to an end, boys’ bowling is beginning. With the team finally coming to life last year, many mustangs are excited for the new energy that the competitive season will bring. The season kicks off with tryouts this Monday, and the team is ready to strike up another season of competition and fun.
After officially forming last year, the Mustangs’ boys bowling program made impressive strides in its debut season. The players built a strong foundation of teamwork and enthusiasm, creating a supportive atmosphere both on and off the lanes. Now, returning members are eager to welcome new talent and continue building on that momentum, continuing the progress of last year.
Committed bowler and tri-sport athlete Shane Arteaga says the team’s focus this year will be on consistency and improvement.
“It felt awesome being a part of the first boys’ bowling team in school history,” Arteaga continued. “Knowing that this is a team that is inclusive for everybody gave me a good feeling, since I was gonna be the start of something that will go on for generations.”
Tryouts will be held on Oct. 27 and 28, after school at Fox Bowl from 3:15 to 4:45 p.m., where students will compete for spots on the roster. Participants should bring their own ball and shoes if they have them, though equipment will also be available at the alley. Bowlers will be evaluated on fundamentals, accuracy, and attitude throughout the two days. Whether seasoned or new to the sport, all Metea Valley students are encouraged to give it a try, since the program doesn’t intend to cut many participants.
“I encourage everyone to try out!” Arteaga emphasizes. “It is an enjoyable, laid-back sport that is not very physically demanding. On the other hand, it is a very competitive environment, which is mentally challenging.”
To be eligible, athletes must complete the registration process and have a current physical on file. Any questions about the season or tryouts can be directed to Coach Kathy Wonsowski.
With fresh faces, renewed energy, and plenty of enthusiasm, the Mustangs are ready to roll into another exciting season. Fans can look forward to following the team as they take on schools across the conference and aim to make a name for Metea Valley bowling. One thing is for sure: this season promises to be full of Mustang spirit and plenty of turkeys. If you have any spare time, roll out on Monday and become a part of the Mustang bowling legacy.
