Lights, Camera, Ready? Saturday Night Live is almost back! The amazing late-night show has taken a break for the summer but is ready for its comeback leading into the 2025-2026 season.
SNL is beloved by many generations and has been for the last 50 years. The show first premiered on Oct. 11, 1975, and celebrated its 50th anniversary last season. The show is known for its amazing celebrity hosts like Taylor Swift, Bill Harder, Will Ferrell, and Chris Rock.
With the new season’s release date incoming, viewers are scared about the loss of a lot of fan-favorite cast members. Cast members Heidi Gardner, Devon Walker, Michel Longfellow, Emil Wakim have all announced their departure from the show.
Many people continue to watch the show because of the funny skits that include the celebrities. Some are well-known, like the Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter “Domingo” skit. Or even the “Yeet Skirt” skit featuring Pete Davidson and Timothee Chalamet. As much as I love these skits, my personal favorite aspect of the show will continue to be the “Weekend Update.”
Although SNL is known for its very comedic skits regarding real-world events, every year, it takes a long break for the summer. Now this past summer has had many infamous pop culture moments, such as the Coldplay affair, Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle jeans ad, the rise of six-seven jokes, and even more.
With such a long break, the amazing writers of this comedic late-night show miss infamous moments to joke about. Unfortunately, when it comes to filming, many of these jokes are outdated and cannot be used anymore. If SNL were a year-long show, there would be even more infamous skits and hilarious episodes with comedic guests.
I remember during the summer break of 2024, many were joking about the presidential debate that was ridiculed over the internet. Now, just imagine that with a comedic skit that completely makes fun of both sides.
I am aware of the very intense filming schedule of the show. It is by no means an easy feature to continuously be a part of for so many weeks at a time for years on end. However, the show is so amazingly run that there could be one to two week breaks at a time rather than one large two to five month break every summer.
Overall, SNL is one of the best late-night shows ever, and this kind of addition will only make it even better.
