Taiesha Goyal is a senior at Metea Valley High School. She has participated in numerous STEM extracurriculars and aims to become a doctor in the future.
What role(s) do you play at Metea?
I am a board member and leader for many clubs, such as GEMS, Girls Who Code, and the National Arts Honor Society. I’m also a math peer tutor at Metea. I just really like helping people learn more and gaining experiences for myself. My favorite activity would be being a leader for Girls in STEM. I get the opportunity to work with fellow STEM leaders to create engaging opportunities and activities for encouraging female involvement in STEM careers.
What are your goals and/or plans for the future?
I want to pursue a major in genetics and biology with a minor in computer science and traditional arts. I plan to pursue med school to become a doctor and impact my community.
What are some of your favorite memories from your time at Metea?
I really like being a teacher’s assistant for genetics. I was given the opportunity to TA genetics in my senior year, and it’s been really fun to be able to go back to the class that I enjoyed previously and now be able to help my peers. Through this opportunity, I’m also able to gain more valuable experiences for my major.
What’s something about you that people might not know about but is important to you?
Something that is really important to me would be my creative side. I’ve always been into art and other creative pursuits since I was a kid, and I am constantly on the lookout to figure out new ways to integrate my passion for art with my passion for science. For example, in Arts Honor Society, as a board member, we planned out an activity where we made art for our local children’s hospital. Those art pieces are currently displayed in the children’s wing. It was a really nice way for me to be able to use my artistic passions to be able to help my community further.
What keeps you motivated to come to school every day?
There are a multitude of reasons. Seeing my friends, meeting my teachers, and being able to learn more about topics I’m interested in are all reasons that motivate me to come to school. I also look forward to meeting with my fellow leaders and peers before and after school for various STEAM activities. I look forward to coming to school because I am able to cultivate and grow my passions and my ability to become a better doctor in the future.
