The varsity wrestling team competed at the DuPage Valley Conference meet this weekend. The conference this year was held at Naperville North, where the Mustangs placed sixth overall.

The Mustangs gave a good fight while pinning their opponents. Sophomore Kenny Siwicki and senior John Baker made sure to lead the team. Siwicki placed third in the 126 weight class and Baker placed fourth in the 145 weight class. The boys have been working on their technique, and their philosophy continues to be consistent as they work hard during those six minutes on the mat.

“When I’m in my match, I think about how hard I have worked in practice,” Baker said.

The team will be moving on to IHSA Regionals on Feb. 8 with the aspiration to place higher and leave with a better score.  The Mustangs hope to turn that corner and bring everything to the mat while also enjoying their last few meets of the season.

“I know my team is a good one. They are a big reason why I like to wrestle,” Baker said.

The varsity wrestling team has their final upcoming matches on Wednesday against Bolingbrook.
