Weekly Sport Update 2/22-3/1

Boys’ Basketball (Tyler Perry)

The boys’ basketball team had two games last week. They faced two different reschedulings and a cancellation, but were able to play against Dekalb and Central. Senior Malik Bell, who transferred from Marian Catholic, made his debut and tallied a team high of 15 points. However, the Mustangs fell to the Barbs 68-44. Metea will travel across Aurora to face Waubonsie tomorrow at 7 p.m.

Girls’ Basketball (Grace Davidson)

This past Tuesday, the girls lost an away game against Central, the final score being 60-40. This upcoming Tuesday and Wednesday, they have home games against Waubonsie and South Elgin. The team will be ending the week with an away game at Neuqua on Friday.

Girls’ Bowling (Tyler Perry)

Metea’s bowling team had three matches last week. The 4-0 Mustangs challenged Geneva as they picked up a victory against the Vikings. The next day, Metea faced Central where the Redhawks got completely rocked. Junior Sydney Lewis led the way as she pulled off an amazing feat. Lewis became the first player in Metea history to bowl a perfect 300. Dekalb was up next, and they were no match. Senior Meredith Olef capped off a great night as she finished with 654. The Mustangs will face South Elgin for their next matchup today at 4 p.m.

Cheerleading (Tyler Perry)

The cheerleading squad only had one meet last week. The team traveled northwards to face off against Huntley for their last chance of action this past Saturday.

Dance (Grace Davidson)

The team attended the International Dance Teachers Association (IDSA) competition and the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) sectionals on Saturday. They managed to become IDTA state qualifiers for the first time in Metea Valley history, and the competition is scheduled for March 13. This upcoming Saturday, however, the team has the IHSA state competition. 

Girls’ Gymnastics (Grace Davidson)

The team faced Dekalb on Thursday, earning a team season high of 128, and had their Senior Night. This upcoming Thursday, the girls have an away match against Naperville North. 

Boys’ Swimming (Grace Davidson)

This past Wednesday, the boys had their Senior Night and a home meet against North. They have a home meet against Central on Friday.
