Weekly Sports Beats 10/18-10/24

Boys’ Cross Country (Max Berglind)

The Mustangs concluded the regular season with their conference meet on Saturday. Sophomores Rameez Abrar (17:04) and Nathan Behr (17:17) lead the way for Metea. The top 14 runners will head to regionals next week hosted by Oswego East.

Girls’ Cross Country (Nick Vallejo)

The girls had their meet at the DuPage Valley Conference (DVC) at Waubonsie on saturday. Metea placed third with Sarah Maggio (18:06) placing fourth and Keleey Behr (18:51) placing 11. Their next meet is at the IHSA regionals at Oswego East.

Boys’ Football (Nick Vallejo) 

Metea faced Naperville Central this past Friday as the visitors in Central’s stadium. The Redhwaks started the game off quickly with a score of 28-0. The Mustangs were not able to make a comeback with the Redhawks dominating most of the game resulting in a 43-14 loss for Metea.

Boys’ Soccer (Grace Davidson)

The boys’ beat Naperville Central 2-1 last Tuesday. They tied 0-0 against West Aurora, ending their regular season on Thursday. Coming up, the Mustangs will move to regionals on Tuesday and regional finals this Friday. 

Girls’ Swim and Dive (Grace Davidson) 

Metea hosted a 12 team invite meet last Friday and Saturday. Oswego scored the highest with a total of 489 points, the Mustangs placed second with 384, followed by Neuqua with 327 points. This week the diving team has a DVC meet on Friday, and Metea will host the DVC swimming tournament on Saturday. 

Girls’ Tennis (Grace Cronin)

The Mustangs played Batavia with a tough loss of 10-0 last Tuesday. The girls’ would travel to Benets for sectionals, ending their season with wins in the first rounds of singles and doubles last Friday and Saturday not making it to state.

Girls’ Volleyball (Grace Cronin) 

The girls’ went up against Waubonsie Valley winning in a two-set game last Tuesday. They would later travel to Geneva, where they won again in two sets 25-15 and 25-21, marking their 30th win, crushing the school record on Wednesday. The team continued their streak with a win against Neuqua, putting them 8-0 in the conference last Thursday. Their next game is against Naperville North this Tuesday.
