Metea’s men’s track and field team spent its offseason building the speed, strength, and confidence necessary to dominate the competition. With several strong indoor performances already recorded and new athletes stepping into key roles, the Mustangs are setting a high bar for the upcoming outdoor season.
For many athletes, indoor track is more than just “outdoor preseason.” It is a vital opportunity to test limits and gain experience. This year, the Mustangs have embraced the challenge, showing early improvement while living up to the team’s theme of “working the process.” As the season enters its second half, athletes are consistently hitting personal records (PRs), validating months of offseason dedication. The Mustangs have already competed in seven meets, highlighted by a first-place finish at the Jerry Lowe Invitational in Rockford.
“I’ve been doing well this season, especially coming off an injury last year,” said senior David Igabalajobi. “I haven’t reached my ultimate goals yet, but we’ve had a great start.”
Indoor meets feature smaller tracks and faster competition, forcing athletes to adjust to high-pressure situations. Preparation began last fall, with athletes spending hours in the weight room and on the track. This demanding schedule of sprint workouts, distance training, and field-event drills builds the technical foundation and confidence needed for elite competition.
