This Thursday, a new senior tradition will be launched. A panoramic photo of the Class of 2016 will be taken during third period in the main gym to not only commemorate another successful graduating class, but also to initiate yet another school tradition.

“I’m happy that we’re able to start a new school culture as seniors. I’m proud to be part of the class that is starting tradition here,” senior Nate Olmedo said.

MV StuGo advisers Ashley Abruscato and Elizabeth Buchanan took the initiative to organize this event, as well as many other new events specific to seniors, such as the Senior Breakfast. Since 2016 marks Metea’s fifth graduating class and the fourth graduating class to be comprised of students who attended Metea all four years, it is only appropriate that new senior traditions should be appearing.

“We think it is important to start this tradition of a senior panoramic picture and provide students with an opportunity to purchase one as a keepsake. While I’m sure the picture will be missing a few seniors, we want to seize the opportunity to photograph the Class of 2016 as a whole. Our hope and plan is for us to take this picture every year,” assistant principal Kimberly Maloney said.

School traditions, whether they pertain to the entire school or solely to seniors, are not limited to being created by teachers. Part of what makes this year’s graduating class unique is their uncanny ability to start new traditions.

“[The class of 2016] is not afraid of a challenge. They have big ideas and the follow through to make those big ideas happen! They come together as a class and continue to set traditions that students will be doing for many years to come,” StuGo adviser Ashley Hartke said.
