Senior Communications & Composition English classes, often referred to as Comm & Comp, will continue to work on their interview projects Monday and Tuesday. These projects are designed to act as mock job interviews, to give students the opportunity to practice and improve their interview skills.

The interview portion of the project was the final product of multiple smaller projects that the students have been doing. The entire process revolved around job research and the preparation that goes into getting a job, whether it be part time or a career.

“We all had to choose a position we wanted to go into, then we found a job ad online and went through the process of making resumes,” senior Sophia Zaras said, describing the beginning of the project.

After finding job openings and creating resumes, the students were then interviewed by various teachers and real employees, posing as potential employers. Teachers that are acting as interviewers were given the resumes before hand, so that they could structure the interviews to fit each individual job. The interviews are structured just like a real job interview would be, and are done in front of the class, so that students can observe and contrast how interviews for various jobs could differ.

Most students have very little experience with interviews, but having the skills to talk about your strengths, goals, and self in general is something that almost all employers see as important, so the Comm & Comp teachers believe that it is important to strengthen those skills as much as possible, before students may even need them. The entire Comm & Comp curriculum is designed to help seniors learn about how they are going to be using skills they have learned in English after high school, and this project is one of many that establishes skill sets necessary for the future.

I really enjoyed the whole process!!! This was the most useful aspect I have learned all throughout my high school life and I hope to carry it on with me when I go out into the real world and look for a job (But I probably won’t get one)
