Avatar Studios, responsible for creating the popular TV shows Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, has been developing a new movie called The Legend of Aang, which showcases the original characters from the 2005 show in their adult life. However, an accidental email sent to a man led to the entire movie being leaked in HD quality.
The leak spread like wildfire across social media platforms on April 13, with some reposting the entire film. People ended up using clips for character fan edits or even just watching the entire movie illegally.
It all just feels wrong.
As a long-time fan of the Avatar franchise, the concept of even watching any scenes from the movie makes me feel guilty. The developers of the movie expressed their disappointment in the leak through social media, saying they were infinitely excited to watch old fans come back to the fandom through the theatrical release of their new movie.
Although I knew about the franchise while growing up, I first watched Avatar: The Last Airbender when I was 12. I quickly became a huge fan of the series, imagining myself as a waterbender, buying merchandise, and even dressing up as Katara for Halloween.
Upon hearing about the new movie as well as the upcoming 2027 series, Avatar: Seven Havens, I was ecstatic to hear my favorite TV series would be having more added to the storyline. Avatar Studios originally announced the making of Legend of Aang in 2021. My initial thoughts were “Ugh, 2026 and 2027 are so far away,” but I realized that it takes time to make masterpieces.
Julia Schoel, an animator for The Legend of Aang, posted about her disappointment on X, explaining, “Leaking a movie before release undermines the entire effort at its most vulnerable moment,” Schoel said. “We worked on the Aang movie for years with the expectation that we’d get to celebrate all of our hard work in theaters.”
To that guy who decided to post the entire movie, screw you. And to all the fans, please wait until October 9, which would have been the official release date. The least we can do is be respectful towards Avatar Studios and their hard work to make such an amazing movie.

the movie is only releasing on Paramount+, not In theaters or anywhere else. everyone who’s worked on it has already been paid so by pirating the movie the only ones who are losing is Paramount, a multi-bilion dollar company.(which is also a company who’s faced multiple controversies)
I can understand feeling guilty about piracy but If you don’t want to watch it don’t. don’t criticize people who don’t want to give their money to another greedy streaming service, people would gladly wait for the release if it was still going to have a theatrical release but its not.

It’s not just about the piracy, but the fact that people leaked the movie and spread spoilers, which ruined its premier. Even if they weren’t going to be paid more, the creators were probably excited for its official release, all for their work to be leaked. And I’m sure there were fans who came across spoilers accidentally, which wasn’t fair to them either.
